SUN DEVILS NAMED TOP RECRUITING CLASS- Arizona State University has been named by Baseball America as having the best recruiting class for 2009. They are followed by #2 Vanderbilt and #3 Georgia. The Gatemen roster features the top two rated freshman on the Sun Devil roster; Jordan Swagerty (C/RHP) and Zach Wilson (3B). The roster also includes Jack Armstrong (RHP/1B) from Vanderbilt's recruiting class. Jack is the son of former Wareham Gatemen and MLB All-Star Jack Armstrong.
ALCS - WORLD SERIES - GATEMEN CONNECTIONS- The Wareham Gatemen are very proud to have been well represented during he MLB playoffs. 1997 CCBL MVP Carlos Pena and relief pitcher JP Howell (Gatemen '03) play for the American League Champion Tampa Bay Rays. The Boston Red Sox, who were defeated in game 7 of the ALCS, featured Justin Masterson, who played for the Gatemen in 2005 as the team's closer. AND former Gatemen "signee", David Price, who was the #1 pick in the draft in '07, pitched the final 4 outs to close out Boston in game 7 of the ALCS.

2009 ROSTER HAS BEEN RELEASED - The 2009 Wareham Gatemen roster has been released and is availabe at www.gatemen.org. The roster features 11 returning players, 1 returning signed player who played for Team USA last summer (Derek Dietrich - Georgia Tech) and 16 new players from all over the country. Please continue to check back to our website as we post more information about our talented players throughout the offseason.
2008 TOP CAPE LEAGUE PROSPECTS BY BASEBALL AMERICA - Baseball American named their top 30 prospects in the Cape Cod Baseball League from this past summer. Grant Green (UCLA - Chatham), CCBL All-Star Game MVP, was named the top prospect followed by two UNC players; Dustin Ackley (Harwich) and Matt Harvey (Chatham). Returning Gatemen RHP Brandon Workman (Texas) made the list at #5 and LHP Matt Bashore (Indiana) was tabbed as the 28th best prospect.

FIRST LOOK AT 2009 ROSTER- The Wareham Gatemen have released the first version of the 2009 roster. While plenty of recruiting and paperwork remain, the organization has "protected" players that have been invited to return in '09 or join the team after playing this past summer for Team USA. See our 2009 roster.
RYAN BEGGS NOT RETURNING TO WAREHAM- Ryan Beggs, pitching coach under Head Coach Cooper Farris for both the Wareham Gatemen since 2002 and at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, will not be returning to Wareham in 2009. Coach Beggs has accepted another coaching position that will not allow him to return to Cape Cod. Congratulations Coach Beggs!!
RAYNOR CAMBELL TABBED WITH ALL-LEAGUE HONOR- Gatemen third baseman Raynor Cambell (Baylor), was named to the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Conference team; the only Gatemen named to the team.

BOOK TO HONOR THE LIFE OF JOHN WYLDE - Former New Bedford Standard Times sports reporter Zach Rocha, the Gatemen beat reporter for years, is writing a book Gatemen President John Wylde. Zach hopes to release the book just prior to the 2009 season and we hope to make in available on www.gatemen.org.
GATEMEN WEBSITE "TOOK A HIT" - This website suffered a major, technical "glitch" a couple of weeks ago and after being down for over 24 hours, we discovered that much of the site had to be restored and reloaded. Most of that effort has been completed but we realize that certain aspects or versions of specific pages are either missing or not functioning properly. This will not affect our ability to bring you the latest Gatemen News and Notes and other features during the off-season.
THANK YOU SAM ESHELMAN- The "voice of the Gatemen", Sam Eshelman, has finished his second and final season in the Gatemen pressbox. A recent graduate of Arizona State University where he served as the school's radion station program director, Sam proved to be one of the top broadcasters in the league and helped us deliver free, live broadcasts of over 44 games during the past two seasons from Spillane Field. We wish Sam luck "in the real world"! Justin Ienuso, also a Sun Devil, will return to Wareham next summer and step into the lead broadcast role after sitting next to Sam this past season. |

SCHEDULE UPDATE- The Gatemen will play two games on Thursday, August 7th, the final day of the regular season. At 1:00pm, Wareham will play Chatham at Spillane Field. This game will have a 5:00pm curfew so that Chatham can arrive in Orleans for a 7:00pm start. Wareham will then play Bourne; also at Spillane Field that night at 7:00pm.
PINEDA RACKING UP THE EXTRA BASE HITS- Ryan Pinea (Cal-State Northridge) has compiled 16 extra base hits; good for 4th in the league. Batting second in the Gatemen order, he has combined with All-Star Raynor Cambell (Baylor) for one of the most effective 1-2 batters in the CCBL. Overall, Pineda is hitting .283; second only to team leading Cambell's .326. He has 41 total hits, a team leading and 3rd best in the league 11 doubles and has a team leading 65 total bases to go along with 18 rbi; second on the Wareham roster.
RIVALS.COM TOP RATED CCBL PLAYERS- Rivals.com has named their "Elite 11" players in the Cape Cod Baseball League. Gatemen pitcher Brandon Workman (Texas) is listed at number 4 and Gatemen LHP Dallas Keuchel has been rates as the 8th best player on Cape Cod. See entire list |

SUMMER 16 TIMES TWO- PGCrosschecker.com has released their latest ranking of the top summer league teams across the country but have expanded that list to now inlcude 32 teams! Check out the rankings.
"MANNY TRADE" INCLUDED FORMER GATEMEN- Former Gatemen infielder Andy LaRoche was traded from the LA Dodgers to the Pittsburgh Pirates as part of the 3-way trade that was centered around Manny Ramirez being traded by the Boston Red Sox to LA. LaRoche has already hit a homer in one of his first games for Pittsburgh.

MARTHA'S VINEYARD INFORMATION- For those travelling to Martha's Vineyard on Tuesday, July 22nd for the 1:00pm game between the Wareham Gatemen & Falmouth Commodores, we have posted this piece on the our website. You will find ferry and other information about Martha's Vineyard and the game. This will be third game that Wareham has played at an "off-site" this season after already playing two games in New Bedford.
GATEMEN vs. THE CAPE LEAGUE IN '08- This is how the current 12-19-1 record for the Gatemen breaks down vs. CCBL opponents:
POWER SURGE- Through 32 games, the Gatemen have hit 17 homeruns. In 2007, the team hit a total of 11 for the whole season. The Gatemen are lead by Ryan Pineda, Kipp Shutz, Aaron Baker and Brett Eiber who have 2 homers apiece. Pineda is tied for 2nd in the league with 10 doubles and tied for 3rd with 13 total extra base hits. |
THANK YOU NEW BEDFORD CABLE ACCESS- Not only did the New Bedford Cable Access Station provide our Gatemen Broadcast Team their video feed for the two games at Walsh Field, but they came to Spillane Field on July 20th for the game vs. Falmouth. Their video capabilities allow for multiple cameras, instant replays and an overall professional view of the game. We are able to tie in their video with our Live Teamline broadcast to show the game. We look forward to more opportunties to work with the folks at the New Bedford Cable Access Station.
CONGRATULATIONS COACH NICHOLSON - Congratulations to Orleans Cardinals Head Coach Kelly Nicholson who picked up his 100th win in a July 20th win over the Chatham A's. Coach Nicholson has been at the helm in Orleans for just over 4 seasons. Orleans is 16-2-1 in the month of July; the hottest team on the league. The Gatemen will play Orleans at home on Thursday; the last game before the All-Star break.
"SUMMER 16" RANKINGS UPDATE - PGCrosschecker.com released their latest ranking of the top 16 summer teams from across the country. The Anchorgage Glacier Pilots from the Alaska Summer League are ranked as the top team in the latest rankings followed by the Hyannis Mets from the CCBL. Other CCBL teams included are the Orleans Cardinals at #4 and the Bourne Braves at #12. See the entire list.

ROSTER UPDATE - PITCHER ADDED- The Wareham Gatemen have added RHP from Alabama, Austin Graham. Graham replaces Crimson Tide teammate Brandon May who is recovering from a concussion sustained earlier this season when hit by a pitch. The Gatemen have also resigned OF Tom Stack-Babich from Harvard to complete the maximum 24 player limits.
GATEMEN PLAYING IN NEW BEDFORD- The City of New Bedford will host the Wareham Gatemen and Bourne Braves on Friday, July 11th at Walsh Field on the campus of New Bedford High School. The Gatemen are 2-1 in games played in New Bedford in the past 3 years, including a 2-0 win over the Orleans Cardinals on June 16th.

TEAM USA PLAYER UPDATE- The Gatemen have released six players that have been invited to tryout for TEAM USA or have made TEAM USA. (Josh Phegley - Indiana & Rick Hague - Rice have returned home due to injuries) Of the four players remaining, Kendal Volz (Baylor) has been the closer for the Collegiate National Team after spending his summer in Wareham last year as a member of the starting rotation. He is dominating; making 6 appearance, compiling 4 saves, has 11 strikeouts in 7 innings and has not allowed an earned run. Mike Minor (Vanderbilt) is 1-0 with a 0.63 era in 3 starts, Andy Oliver (Oklahoma State) is 1-0 over 2 starts with a 2.00 era and Derek Dietrich (Georgia Tech) is hitting .259 with a homerun and 4 rbi. Dietrich was recently named Rivals.com National Freshman of the Year.
RIGHT FIELD FOG- We've recommended the website Codball.com to Gatemen and Cape Cod Baseball League fans in the past and and another terrific website that is dedicated to the Cape Cod Baseball League is Right Field Fog. Right Field Fog provides much more detailed, baseball coverage of the Cape Cod Baseball League on a daily basis and is a terrific source of CCBL player analysis, college baseball and other features.

| FINAL ROSTER SUBMITTED- The Wareham Gatemen have submitted their final roster to the league and many former non-roster players have made the team. Ryan Pineda (Cal-State Northridge), Chris Hicks (Georgia Tech), Matt Way (Washington State), Jimmy Saris (Georgetown), Shea Vucinich (Washington State), and Aaron Baker (Oklahoma) have all been elevated to the permanent roster.
MIKE SEANDER INJURED- RHP Mike Seander (Duke) has gone home to rest his injured arm.
WORKMAN AMONG LEAGUE LEADERS IN K'S- Texas RHP Brandon Workman is second in the CCBL with 25 strikeouts and will have the chance to move into the lead when he takes the mound tonight (7/5) against Cotuit.
BLAKE DEAN ARRIVES IN TOWN- The struggling Gatemen offense got a boost this week when the last member of the roster arrived after the College World Series when Blake Dean from LSU made his debut. |

Gatemen Notebook June 20, 2008 - (Updated June 25th)
| TEAM USA UPDATE- USA Baseball announced their roster now that the trials period has concluded. Among the six Gatemen that were invited, Kendal Volz (Baylor), Andy Oliver (Oklahoma State), Mike Minor (Vanderbilt) and Derek Dietrich (Georgia Tech) have all been named to the final roster. Rick Hague (Rice) has notified the Gatemen that an injury during the college world series will require rehab this summer and that he will not be playing for Team USA or the Gatemen this summer. Josh Phegley (Indiana) was not among those listed on the final roster but has notified the Gatemen that he is returning to Indiana for an MRI and his status is unknown at this time. EARLY SEASON LEAGUE LEADERS- Thanks to 2 shutout wins in the first week of the season, Max Perlman (Harvard) and Brandon Workman (Texas) are tied for the league lead in era at 0.00 and wins with 1. Brett Eibner (Arkansas) is tied for the lead league in stolen bases with 4.
BLAKE DEAN CONTINUE IS CWS- Gatmen OF Blake Dean from LSU hit a GW double to cap an incredible come from behind victory over Rice at the College World Series in Omaha, NE. LSU plays the rain-delayed conclusion to their game vs. North Carlolina in a elimination game today. (6/20). See Youtube video of dramatic hit below.

SUCCESS IN NEW BEDFORD - The Gatemen are now 2-1 in New Bedford for the past three seasons and have on more game at Walsh Field on July 11th. The Gatemen defeated Orleans 2-0 last Monday evening. Wareham was 0-4 vs. Orleans last season.
HYANNIS LIGHTING CEREMONY - Saturday (6/21) night's game in Hyannis will be preceded by a ceremony to dedicate the new light's at McKeon Park. For the first time in year's the Mets will have night games in Hyannis. |

FIRST NEW BEDFORD GAME SET FOR MONDAY- The Wareham Gatemen will play the first of two "home" games in New Bedford, MA vs. the Orleans Cardinals on Monday, June 16th at 6:30pm (est.). The Gatemen have played a game in New Bedford each of the past two seasons and will play two games at Walsh Field in '08.
ZACH BREWSTER "SUMMER BASEBALL" BLOG - Gatemen LHP Zach Brewster from Georgia Tech is writing a blog on the Georgia Tech website all summer; discussing his experience on Cape Cod and with the Wareham Gatemen. See Zach's blog.
HARVARD/GATEMEN CONNECTION - Harvard University Baseball and the Wareham Gatemen have a special connection. Harvard Head Coach Joe Walsh is former Gatemen coach, President John Wylde is a distinguished member of the Harvard alumni and many Crimson players have worn the Gatemen uniform. This year is no exception as four Harvard players competed for the Gatemen during the preseason; two remain on the roster. Tyler Albright and Dan Zailskas played in the 3 preseason game vs. the Columbus All-Americans and RHP Max Perlman and OF Tom Stack- Babich remain on the roster; Perlman on the permanent roster and Stach-Babich hoping to make the team as a non-roster invitee.

BLAKE DEAN PLAYING IN COLLEGE WORLD SERIES - Gatemen OF Blake Dean from LSU along with USA-Invitee Rick Hague from Rice are the only two member of the Wareham Gatemen roster remaining in the College World Series. Dean was recently named a Baseball America First Team All-American. Buster Posey from Georgia and the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox was named their Player of the Year. Baseball America All-American Team.
MORE ALL-AMERICAN TEAMS ANNOUNCED - Rivals.com has also named their All-American Team and includes former Gatemen OF/1B/LHP Ike Davis from Arizona State on the first team and LHP and USA Invitee Andy Oliver from Oklahoma State on the second team. Additionally, Ping Baseball named Ike Davis to their first team and USA Invitee Josh Phegley from Indiana to their second team.
DEREK DIETRICH NAMED NCBWA FRESHMAN "HITTER OF THE YEAR" - The National College Baseball Writers Association named Derek Dietrich from Georgia Tech; a Gatemen roster player and USA-Invitee, as their National Freshman Hitter of the Year. They also named Dietrich to their All-Freshman First Team and added fellow USA-Invitee and Gatemen roster player Rick Hague to the second team. See story.
RYAN PINEDA NAMED BIG WEST FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR - Recently signed Gatemen INF Ryan Pineda from Cal State Northridge was named the Big West Conference Freshman of the Year. Ryan was also announced as a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American. See story.
GATEMEN ROSTER CHANGES - The Gatemen have made a number of roster changes. Russell Moldenhauer from Texas injured his knee in the last game of the season for the Longhorns and will not be coming to Wareham this season after having surgery. Also, Chris Hicks, drafted by the Houston Astros last week, was signed for his 3rd season with the Gatemen after coming off of an All-Star season in Wareham in '07 as the closer. |

The list includes six Gatemen roster players, including Andy Oiver - Oklahoma State, Kendal Volz - Baylor, Mike Minor - Vanderbilt, Josh Phegley - Indiana, Rick Hague - Rice and Derek Dietrich - Georgia Tech. COLLEGE BASEBALL SUPER-REGIONALS SET- The Super-Regionals take place this weekend and many Gatemen remain in contention. Gatemen players still in contention are playing for LSU, Rice and Stanford.

MILITARY ALL-STARS COME TO CAPE - The Military All-Stars will once again come to Cape Cod to play a pair of games vs. a select CCBL roster; representing all teams. The Gatemen are pleased to announce that three players will be participating in these games. LHP Alex Simas from Massasoit CC, SS Shea Vucinich from Washington State University and 3B/RHP Dan Zailkas from Harvard University will be on the Cape Cod League roster. GATEMEN SIGN LOCAL PITCHER- The Waeham Gatemen have signed LHP from Massasoit CC, Alex Simas from Wareham, Massachusetts. Alex pitched for Wareham High School and played his home games at Spillane Field. Alex is signed as a non-roster invitee and has been invited to represent the Gatemen in the Cape Cod Baseball League vs. Military All-Stars in the annual games that are being played this weekend.
IKE DAVIS NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN- 2007 Gatemen LHP/1B Ike Davis from Arizona State was named a first team, Louisville Slugger All-American. Josh Phegley from Indiana was named to the second team. You will find many familiar Cape Cod League names among those honored. See list.

CONFERENCE TOURNEYS IN FULL SWING- Heading towards the NCAA Tournament and 2008 College World Series, the conference tournaments across the country are in full swing, with many conference tournament finals being playing today. (Sunday, May 25th) Many Gatemen roster players are helping their teams; including OF Blake Dean from LSU; who hit a grand slam to help the Tigers win their 19th straight game by leading LSU to the SEC final. | NEW GATEMEN WEBSITE LAUNCHED- The brand new Wareham Gatemen Baseball website was launched on on Wednesday, May 8th. We are excited about the new look and features and hope that our fans, parents and followers enjoy the site. Some new features to check out:
* Our alumni page features a listing of all all Gatemen players that have been on the roster since 1965. * The navigational menu has been expanded to make it easier for vistiors to browse the site. * The "Gatemen Pressbox" page is all ready for easy viewing of our live webstreaming of games from Spillane Field. Teamline logos and links are in place and ready to go for our first preseason game on June 8th. * You can now reach Gatemen officers and other organizational members by accessing the email addresses that are conviniently located on our "Contacts" page. * The new photos section will continue to grow as we open up the 2008 season. The new layout of this page is hopefully something our Gatemen Parents and Fans will enjoy! * Our "Sponsors Page" is also new and improved, providing a much better layout for our very important advertising clients. * In case you miss any of the news items, the "News Archives" page will be a great source to catch up on Gatemen news, events and announcements.

| TEAM USA INVITEES ANNOUNCED - The first dozen players have been invited to the Team USA trials in Cary, North Carolina. The list includes two pitchers that are currently the Gatemen 2008 Roster; LHP Mike Minor from Vanderbilt and returning Gatemen LHP Andy Oliver from Oklahoma State. Press Release.
JOSH PHEGLEY HONORED - Returning Gatemen catcher Josh Phegley from Indiana University has been named to the Johnny Bench Award watch list. The award is given annually to the nation's top catcher. See list.
DEREK DIETRICH NAMED ACC PLAYER OF WEEK - Incoming Gatemen SS Derek Dietrich from Georgia Tech has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week. Derek is 2nd in the conference with 14 homeruns. See story. |

| GATEMEN FRESHMEN LEADING THE WAY- Many incoming Gatemen are off to great college careers and leading their respective college teams in 2008. Dereck Dietrich from Georgia Tech
is leading the Yellow Jackets in most offensive categories. He is hitting .356 to go along with 9 homeruns, 27 rbi, 64 total bases, 12 walks, 6 doubles and 31 hits. He has started all 24 games for Georgia Tech. Brett Eibner from Arkansas is also leading his Razorback team in many
offensive categories. He is hitting .333 with 26 hits, 2 triples and is tied for 5th in homeruns with 3 and is 2nd on the team in rbi with 23. (On the mound, Brett is 2-1 and has made 6 appearances and 2 starts) Ricky Hague from Rice has been equally impressive in his college debut by hitting .364 to go along with 4 homeruns, 8 doubles, 22 rbi and 32 total hits.
